Band Waggon was the first comedy sketch show designed specifically for radio. It was broadcast weekly by the BBC between 1938 and 1940. Starring Arthur Askey, Richard Murdoch, and Syd Walker, the series followed the misadventures of "Big-hearted" Arthur Askey and Richard "Stinker" Murdoch. Many of their sketches had Arthur and Richard sharing a top floor flat in Broadcasting House. The stage version of Band Waggon - adapted for the stage from the BBC radio broadcast - was on at the London Palladium when the Second World War broke out in September 1939.
