Each no. contains advertisements on inside covers, on back cover and on p. bound before and after the text; advertisement on all inside back covers is for E. Moses & Son, London and on all back covers for Heal & Son's, London.
Errata: p. xvi.
First ed. consisting of 20 monthly issues in 19 (last issue contains no. 19 & 20) issued monthly from March 1852 to Sept. 1853.
No. 19 & 20 contains frontispiece and engraved half t.p. before the text and p. [i]-xvi (which include the t.p.) at the end of the text.
The publishers are also the printers.

BLEAK HOUSE by Charles Dickens 1852-1853

Magazines, including novels issued in monthly parts, were one of the great successes of 19th-century publishing. From the 1830s printing technology and methods of distribution allowed huge numbers to be circulated rapidly. Striking graphics were used to ensure that they caught the customer's eye.
