ILLUSTRATED CHILDREN'S BOOK
Kate Greenaway, Under the window: pictures and rhymes for children, 1878

Images with simple outlines and flat areas of colour could be cheaply reproduced. Coloured wood engravings were made from photographic transfer of the artist's design. The author and illustrator, Kate Greenaway, had worked as a commercial designer and created a style showing an idyllic world of childhood.
