POSTER FOR THE LADY FROM THE SEA
2017

Elinor Cook’s version of Henrik Ibsen’s play, directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah at the Donmar in 2017, changed the location from 19th-century Norway to the 1950s-era Caribbean. Nikki Amuka-Bird, in the role of Ellida Wangel, holds up a glass shard which reveals a glimpse of blue tropical ocean, reflecting the watery symbolism connected with her character’s mermaid-like qualities.
