THE GENTLEMAN AND CABINET-MAKER'S DIRECTOR 1754

Chippendale published the Director to attract business and establish his reputation. The list of subscribers included clients and other cabinet-makers in London, throughout Britain and overseas. It became the most influential furniture pattern book ever produced. The plates were crammed with detail, many showing alternatives for the form and decoration of a piece of furniture.
