This necklace was made in the Indian style betweem 1895 and 1912 by Giuliano, a pre-eminent London jewellery firm, to reflect the origin of the diamonds which had been part of the booty taken at the capture of Seringapatam in 1799. It was commissioned by C. F. Bell for his mother, Clara Bell, the sister of Sir Edward Poynter, a distinguished painter.
