One hundred years ago the attitude to tobacco was very different. My Lady Nicotine was choreographed by Lucia Cormani for the Alhambra Theatre, London, to celebrate the joys of smoking. There were scenes set in Virginia, the Middle East and the Netherlands. Cormani served as ballet mistress for the Alhambra and trained young dancers for the theatre's spectacular productions.(26/10/2020)

Object history
This photograph is part of an archival collection relating to the Alhambra Theatre, London, under the management of Alfred Moul. It was given to the V&A's Gabrielle Enthoven Collection before the formation of the V&A Theatre Museum. The collection comprises papers, correspondence, scripts and photographs covering the period 1902-1913 and has been assigned the archive number THM/75. Photographs of Alhambra ballets have been treated as museum objects and have been formally accessioned.
