Place of origin |
One of a pair of dresses designed by Nigel Ellacott to be worn by him as one of the Ugly Sisters in the ballroom scene of Cinderella. He and Peter Robbins performed with each other as Ugly Sisters for over twenty-five years, and may be the longest-running Ugly Sister partnership in the history of pantomime.
The champagne bucket headdress was made as one unit with the wig. A party popper was inserted in the neck of each champagne bottle for every performance. On their entry into the ball Nigel's character would say to his sister words to the effect of: 'Well dear, here we are at the ..... Palace' (inserting the name of a local shopping centre or well known amenity near the theatre) 'Let's get this party off with a swing!' At this point he would pop the poppers.
