Object history | William Lee invented frame-knitting in 1589 during the reign of Elizabeth I, which revolutionised the hosiery and knitting industry as it speeded up the process of making stockings and other knitting. These stockings were produced by the British Branded Hosiery Group in 1989 to mark the 400th anniversary. |
