AQUATINT From William Gilpin, Observations on the River Wye, 1789

The Reverend William Gilpin's descriptions of tours made in Britain were published in a series of volumes illustrated with aquatint prints. This volume illustrates views of the River Wye. Gilpin's Observations not only reflected a growing interest in the British countryside but also played a crucial role in forming a taste for the 'picturesque' landscape.
