Halsman was a portrait photographer known for capturing his subjects jumping in mid-air. He also collaborated extensively with the Surrealist artist Salvador Dali. This image was inspired by Dali’s painting Leda Atomicus, in which figures and objects are suspended in the air. The painting appears at the far right. It took Halsman – and a team of assistants throwing cats and water – numerous attempts to achieve the final result. |
