Library's copy fully bound in calf. The front and back covers contain, within gold and blind rules, a large panel divided diagonallyinto diamonds, each containing the letter M. Each corner is surmounted by a larger M, itself surmounted by a royal crown. The centre of the panel contains a shield, surmounted by a royal crown, with the arms of Mary, Queen of Scots. The titlepage is inscribed at the head "John Stewartt" and at the tail there is a lengthy inscription dated 7th March 1636 with a separate provenance.The book is contained in a brown buckram slipcase.

In later life she had a large collection of books of which this may be one. Its elaborate French-style binding prominently displays her arms and royal crown and the initial M. It is an Italian study of the portraits found on ancient medals, translated into French. Bound in calf with gold and blind ruling and stamping Published in Lyon, France by Jacopo Strada (born in Venice, Italy, about 1515, died in Vienna, 1588) and Thomas Guerin (born in 1529, died in 1592); probably bound in France by an unidentified craftsman Given by Henry J.B. Clements National Art Library no. L.2035-1948 (16/03/2018)
