Shabti

380 BC - 343 BC
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Blue-green glazed composition shabti, with moulded facial features and details. The figure is mummiform or Osiriform, with a tripartite wig, false beard, and arms crossed over the chest; a hoe is held in one hand, and a bag slung over the left shoulder in the other. An inscription painted in black, running vertically down the front of the figure, gives an abridged version of the 'spell' often found on shabti. There are traces of salt encrustation across the figure.

The figure has a moulded dorsal pillar. Traces of adhesive remain on the pillar, from where the figure was mounted on a display board.
