This unfinished brooch is a demonstration model showing the preliminary stages of engraving on the enamelled brooch M.229-2007. The completed brooch and the demonstration model were commissioned by the Museum from the enameller Jane Short, with an accompanying film of them being made, to illustrate the enamelling techniques of champlevé and basse-taille.
