Adzido Pan African Dance Company
Dance Costume
The three-part costume for a female dancer used in the Wali dance that ended Act 3 of Adzido's 2001 production Chesa Chesa.
This is a hybrid dance created by Adzido using steps from several different regions in Guinea, West Africa, including those of the Serouba, Kakhanke, Dya, Malinke, and Mane and Soussou people. The dance is in two parts; the first is the Koukou work dance from the highland Malinke people performed by young men and women, and the second part is the Triba inspired by the Landouma people from mid Guinea and celebrates the rice harvest.
