This albumen print, an early photographic process, was taken in the photographic studio at the firm of the art metalworker Francis Skidmore (1817-1896) which was registered as Skidmore's Art Manufactures Company at Alma, Street, Coventry. It was taken by an unknown photographer in about 1861. It is a photograph of the plaster model of the figure of an angel made by the sculptor, John Birnie Philip (1824-1875) prior to electroplating it in copper before it was mounted onto the Lichfield Screen. Sir George Gilbert Scott (1811-1878) designed the screen which was made for the division between chancel and nave in Lichfield Cathedral as part of the his renovation scheme in 1861.
