Mug

1759-1760 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This is a typical example of a plain 18th century mug, which has been embellished with chasing in the 19th century, when elaborate decoration was highly prized. The Rococo revival design with shelly motifs, C scrolls and floral swags as well as the interior gilding would have appealed to a Victorian consumer. The glass dome and wooden base are a late 19th century survival.
