Tortoise Denim, launched in 2014, utilises a new patented process titled ‘Wiser Wash®’ that drastically reduces the environmental impact of finishing denim. The ‘Wiser Wash®’ process eliminates the use of pumice stones and toxic chemicals used in traditional denim production, as well as using 90% less water. Developed by Kevin Youn, CEO and Founder of Tortoise Denim, the Wiser Wash® process is currently carried out in the Eco Prk wash house in California, USA. It uses organic pigments, natural wash agents and ozone instead of hazardous chemicals and pumice stones. The patented technique requires less than one cup of water per pair of jeans.
