Daguerreotype of a full-length portrait of a man, standing next to a table, on which there's an easel with a cover of the music sheet for Bluebeard. The sitter is identified as John Orlando Parry (1810-1879) who was an actor, pianist, comedian, artist and singer, and the only son of Welsh musician John Parry (known as Bardd Alaw). He performed Bluebeard during his career, including at the Beaumont Institution in October 1847. Bluebeard is depicted as an Ottoman character on this music sheet. This was a popular story during the 19th century, and was performed as a pantomime version that was regularly staged at the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane from 1798.
The daguerreotype is in a cream card mount and glazed. The verso of the object is backed with paper to secure the plate in the mount. The mount and glazing are held together with a black tape edging.
