This albumen print, a type of photograph, was made in 1868 from a glass negative in the photographic studio in the factory of Skidmore's firm Skidmore's Art Manufactures and Constructive Iron Company at Alma Street, Coventry. This photograph is thus a record of the work done and comes from an archive of designs and photographs from the firm. John Birnie Philip designed the figures of the angels, of which this is one, for the summit of the flèche of George Gilbert Scott's design of the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park, London. The plaster figures were electroformed in copper and gilded by Skidmore's firm.
