Artist/Maker |
Daguerreotype of a half-length portrait of a man wearing a jacket, waistcoat, silk cravat and high-collared shirt. The sitter is identified as George Houghton by an inscription on the verso of the frame. George Houghton went into business with Antoine Claudet for glassware supplies in 1834, so it is likely that this daguerreotype was taken by Claudet. The daguerreotype has been mounted in a gold-coloured passe-partout frame backed with grey paper and glazed; the edging has been retouched with modern black tape.
