During the 1920s and 1930s, fashion magazines suggested colour-themed weddings as a fashionable alternative to the well-established standard of white or metallic silver or gold. The bride’s dress and veil would be made up along traditional bridal lines, but in a soft, flowery colour such as rose-pink or daffodil-yellow, with accessories and bouquet to match. Composed of sprays of lavender made from moulded composition painted purple, this wreath was probably intended for one of these colour-themed weddings in which case it would have been paired with a light purple veil and dress.
