Daguerreotype of a three-quarter length portrait of a man seated, with his arm around a young boy - likely a father and son. The daguerreotype is in a gold-coloured mount with a hexagonal window, and glazed. The daguerreotype is in a leather-coated wooden case with a lining of faded red satin-like fabric. There is one metal hook for fastening on the right hand edge. The front of the case is decorated with a design of flowers in a vase, orientated horizontally.
