The Trout Fisher after Spitzweg

Drawing
2005 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Much of Stephen Walter's recent work has developed through a fascination with maps and signs. His landscapes are constructed from small, repeated geographical map symbols, conveying the sense that every inch of ground is mapped and quantified for human purposes. This composition appears to be abstract, but is actually copied from a painting by the 19th-century German artist Carl Spitzweg.
