The Sussenguth company produced a range of dolls and toys between 1925 and 1928 but is best known for their series of Peter bears. These bears are unusual in that they have open mouths and movable eyes and tongue. The reusulting appearance is quite frightening and the bear did not prove to be very successful. In 1974, a hundred Peter bears were discovered in a closed-down store in East Germany and later brought to England to be sold. They had never been bought and so were in mint condition.
