In 1948, Dior announced the opening of a millinery department, run by the elegant Madame Germaine Bricard. Subsequently, the Dior house named a perfume after her, and she inspired John Galliano’s first couture collection for Dior some 20 years ago. This hat was designed by her, and is one of 11 held by the museum (T.151-1974; T.152-1974; T.155-1974; T.156-1974; T.161-1974; T.162-1974; T.163-1974; T.164-1974; T.165&A-1974; T.250-1984; T.259-1998).
