Object history | This is one of 26 photographs acquired from the English painter and printmaker John Egerton Christmas Piper (1903-1992). Piper, working with the poet John Betjeman, produced them as part of his work editing the Shell Guides, a series of 20th-century guidebooks on the counties of Britain aimed at the new breed of car-driving tourist. This particular group of photographs features details of Romanesque architecture throughout Britain. |
