This print depicts the Fortune Theatre which had by 1811 been converted into tenement buildings. The original playhouse was completed in 1599, but burnt down in 1621. The theatre was rebuilt but closed in 1642 under Oliver Cromwell's strict measures. It was sufficiently delapidated to not survive into the Restoration.
