Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Tom Hammick (born 1963) is a noted British painter and printmaker. He works in a variety of print media, including aquatint, etching, chine collé, and drypoint, but is best known for his large-scale colour reduction woodcuts. [see E.232-2017] He often mixes techniques and varies his editions with hand-colouring and other modifications. His work is characterised by rich evocative colour, and the use of dense pattern. Narrative is a constant element of his work, whether the subject is personal, inspired by contemporary news media, or drawn from literature or music, especially opera. He favours scenes set at night, or at dusk.
