Thigh-length double-breasted coat in black ground satin with a soft fuzzy reverse and colourful Chinese style dragons print. Slightly fitted with a large lapelled collar and long sleeves. The back has a square yoke and deep inset pleat from the centre back. Lined with black satin. Matching tie belt.

| Object history | Worn by Talitha Getty and donated by Sir Paul Getty via Cecil Beaton. The Paul Getty donation is not referenced in the catalogue of Cecil Beaton's collection. In 1967/1968, Alice Pollock (who was Ossie Clark's business partner at the Quorum boutique) went to the United States on a shopping trip, and brought back a quantity of this rather dramatic Chinese-printed dressing-gown satin. While this example is black-ground, blue, white, and red ground fabric was also purchased. Ossie Clark used it for coats, tailored jackets, and even made entire Lamborghini trouser suits out of it. - Daniel Milford-Cottam |
