Place of origin

This fabric, designed by Red or Dead for the Autumn/Winter 1993 Collection, features singing and dancing skeletons wearing tartan kilts, ties and hats. Similar scenes can be found on Mexican textiles celebrating 'The Day of the Dead' and paintings and engravings from medieval and renaissance Europe, for example the work of Hans Holbein the Younger. A more contemporary association can be made with the drug culture associated with dance parties and clubs and the ecstasy-related deaths that peaked in the period 1992-1994.
