Tamagno was a highly successful Italian opera singer who toured Europe and America. His performance of Otello was the first performance of Giuseppe Verdi's opera, based on Shakespeare's play Othello. The performance achieved resounding success in Milan in 1887, and toured Europe and America after 1887.
