Physical description | Print showing scenes from a production of Peter the Great, at the Lyceum, January 1898. The print shows four scenes, with one scene at the bottom of the page and three at the top. The top left scene shows 'Catherine and Euphrosyne' from Act II. Ellen Terry plays Catherine and is standing on the left wearing a fur lined and embroidered coat and has her fists clenched facing towards Euphrosyne. Euphrosyne is played by Ethel Barrymore, she is wearing a tall headress with a white and black dress. Behind Barrymore is a third, unnamed male character with his left hand raised. The scene below whos Terry as Catherine in Act I, wearing a tricorn hat, coats and boots. The scene at the top right is entitled 'Mercy! Mercy!', from Act 4. It shows Irving as Peter the Great, he has his sword raised looking down towards Terry. The bottom scene shows Irving standing in a coat and boots, holding a sword and facing towards Robert Taber as Alexis. Taber is sitting on a chair, turned in profile towards Irving wearing a dark coat. The scene is entitled "A monastry. or my work". |
