This man’s under-garment is emblazoned with a tiger. The image of this powerful animal, associated with military prowess, would have symbolically imbued the wearer with its strength and courage. The tiger is shown in a grove of bamboo, an auspicious combination of motifs suggestive of a harmonious society, as the prowling tiger protects the bamboo, which in turn camouflages the creature.
