Lithography involves the application of ink onto a grease-treated image on a flat surface. Blank areas, which hold moisture, repel the lithographic ink. The surface is then printed onto paper.
The short comic opera Trial By Jury was composed by Gilbert and Sullivan in the 1870s at the request of Richard D'Oyly Carte, as an afterpiece to the opera La Périchole. It opened on 25th March 1875 at the Royalty Theatre, and played over 300 times in two years. Richard Sullivan, who played the role of The Learned Judge, was composer Arthur Sullivan's brother.
