The adaptation was written by J. Comyns Carr and was produced by Henry Irving, starring Irving and Ellen Terry. The music was composed by Arthur Sullivan and the sets, costume and artwork by Pre-Raphaelite artist and designer Sir Edward Burne-Jones. The production was an incredible success and ran for over 100 performances, and also toured North America.
