Object history | Part of the archive of Joyce Ellen Badrocke, who, with her twin sister Joan, was a textile designer for Horrockses Fashions in the late 1940s and 1950s. Joyce worked at Hanover Square in London for seven years between 1951 and 1958, commuting in from Sussex daily. She occupied herself on the train journeys from Sussex to London and back by sewing patchwork in small portions to make up into larger quilts, using many of her own fabric designs for Horrockses. Joyce made this dress for herself from her own fabric design, which she called Blue Splash. The print was also available in pink. |
