Gosport Theatre was built initially as Wesleyan Chapel, but was taken over by Gosport Bioscope Company Ltd and converted into a theatre in 1910. In 1931 it was refurbished as a cinema which closed in 1938.
J. Grant Anderson was a Scottish actor, writer and theatre director. Anderson started a repertory company in Gosport in the 1920s, and toured with it from 1929-1939 through India, Burma, Ceylon, China, Japan, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Java and Sumatra.
