Vitrine Design

Design
20th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

These designs are all initialled ‘V.M.’; apart from this there is nothing to identify the designer. The style of the designs, however, can assist in dating the designs. The thin supports at the edges of the cabinet, their minimal ornamentation and the substantial panes of glass used indicate that they date from the early 20th century.

Object history
This group of designs for vitrines (E.766 to 770-2017) appear to be on the same type of paper, and one has a watermark for ‘A Lavis [….]CANSON & MONTGOLF[ier]’. Stylistically the watermark on the designs is similar to the Canson & Montgolfier watermark on ‘Nu Au Coussin Bleu’ by Henri Matisse, 1924 (E.303- 1935). Suggesting the paper is early 20th century.
