Akiyama Yo is one of the most important ceramicists to have been active in Japan during the past four decades. The V&A owns a major example of his work in the form of 'Geological Age V' (FE.563-1992). This smaller piece belongs to a recent series of works in which he has returned to ideas he developed as a student at Kyoto City University of Arts but to which he did not at that time give concrete expression.
