11. FACSIMILE PHOTOGRAPH OF
'Paris: Exhibition, 1867. Italian Sculpture.'
Charles-Louis Michelez, 1867
Artists and students could use photographs to view exhibitions that they could not visit. Here, a plaster cast of David is photographed at the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1867. It was at this exhibition that the International Convention for reproducing and sharing works of art was signed. Michelez worked early in the morning before the exhibition was open. We can see the water trails left by the cleaners who had just mopped the floor.
