Small oak box with lid and lidded till (proper left), the interior with 16th century printed lining paper, each foot cut with an ogee arch and carved with a trefoil ornament at the cusp. The lid and front with simple nulling (?) and zig-zag carving. Of boarded construction, with half-lap joints, the bottom nailed up; the lid held on two staple hinges (one broken and supplemented with another); loss at the front of the proper right foot.
With lock (possibly original) and broken hasp, fitted over the lining paper.
With a dark stain overall.

Object history
Bequeathed by Cecil Millar of 30 Newman Street, Oxford Street, London (63/1377). Lined with Besford Court Wallpaper (E.3593-1913). Millar was described in Museum correspondence (1910) as 'a decorative artist who also deals in furniture', and sold a number of pieces to the Museum from 1910. On inspection in 1965 the box was standing on the buffet in the dining room.
