Place of origin |
Man's waistcoat with round neckline, curving fronts and skirts reaching between mid and upper thigh. The fronts are made of dark pink (pompadour) silk brocaded with yellow silk thread partially wrapped with silver strip and coloured silks in a woven-to-shape pattern of a curving branch with flowers and leaves. The back is made of dark pink worsted twill. The waistcoat is lin a ed with undyed fustian, the back skirts with beige worsted twill, the front skirts and front edges faced with cream silk twill. There are 13 worked buttonholes along the left front with 13 self-covered buttons on the right front.
The waistcoat was probably remade for shorter, stouter wearer. A seam across each front above the pocket flaps carefully pieces the woven-to-shape design and the worsted back is heavily pieced.
