Architectural Drawing

27 March 2016
Artist/Maker

Kengo Kuma (b.1954) is a leading Japanese architect of works mainly in Japan and China. At the moment, he is completing the building of V&A Dundee. The stadium for the 2020 Olympic Games undoubtedly will become Kuma’s most well-known work. He made this drawing especially for the V&A upon a request for a drawing in his own hand. It is a fine quick sketch showing the elevation of the stadium, the horizontal rings executed in thick black crayon and the vertical zig-zag forms of the uprights in pencil. The support is a cream textured Japanese paper. The architect has titled, signed and dated the drawing ‘OLYMPIC STADIUM 2020 / KENGO KUMA – mar 27. 2016’.
