An oblong sheet metal thali decorated on the front with a design of mangoes in wirework round a hollow hemisphere (now a little crushed). A gold sheet with a diapered pattern has been fused at the rear and made into a cylindrical loop at the top with a triple conjoined octahedron above and a rhombus-shaped foliated additional gold sheet soldered over the loop.

Object history | This pendant is part of the large donation of Indian folk jewellery from Dr Waltraud Ganguly which was collected over the last few decades before her death in 2015 from dealers in both India and Europe, in parallel with extensive fieldwork she carried out in the Indian Sub-Continent. It was purchased in 1997 from the antiques collector, Lily Vijayaraghavan in Chennai. It cost 2430 Rupees. |
