It features a full length profile portrait of Mérode who is wearing an open gown with full sleeves and a wide trained skirt. Her head is tilted slightly backwards and her gaze is directed away from the viewer. She is standing with her arms outstretched, holding open the gown to reveal the underskirt beneath.
