Physical description
Photographic portrait of the actress Lydia Thompson (1838-1908) in the title role of a production of Robinson Crusoe at the Folly Theatre, London. It features a three quarter length portrait of Thompson who is dressed in a short pale tunic with a full skirt and short sleeves and a small, round, metal flask is suspended from a belt at her waist. Both the tunic and her hat, with its tall crown, are formed from pale feathers (possibly ostrich). She is standing with her left arm slightly raised, her gaze directed towards a bird which is perched on her left hand.
