Photographic portrait of the italian dancer, Mdlle. Francesca Zanfretta (1862-1952) taken by Alfred Ellis & Walery, Paris, 1903. It features a full length portrait of Zanfretta who is wearing a close fitting bodice and matching skirt. She is holding a tall, upright, striped staff in her left hand, the top of this is surmounted by a pair of ostrich feathers. Her right hand is holding upon her skirt which is split at the side to reveal the tights she wears beneath. Both her costume and these tights are decorated with spangles.
