Physical description
Design for the set in Act II of The Mikado, for a production staged at the Theater am Nollendorfplatz, Berlin, 1912. The design features deep blue backdrop formed from a series of 6 Japanese screens meeting in a 'V' shaped point at the centre. The screens have a blue ground and are painted at the base with a low brown fence from behind which rise delicate green plants with pointed leaves. A rust red lantern mounted on a square base is depicted on the front left, and front right, screen. A further oval lantern with a tassel at its base is suspended from the top of the stage at the centre of the scene.
