Gold finger ring, nali, in inverted double 'V' shape with a pendant pearl. The front has a design in relief of Shiva and his consort, Parvati, holding a lotus bloom seated on his left, riding on the god's Vehicle bull, Nandi. They are displayed within a cusped frame rising out of foliated scrolls beneath on either side.

Object history | This finger ring is part of the large donation of Indian folk jewellery from Dr Waltraud Ganguly which was collected over the last few decades before her death in 2015 from dealers in both India and Europe, in parallel with extensive fieldwork she carried out in the Indian Sub-Continent. It was shown at the exhibition in the Goldschmiedehaus, Hanau, Germany, 18 October 2013 - 18 January 2014. It was bought from the German jewellery dealer, Hans Weihreter, Augsburg, in July 2009 for 930 Euros. |
